The Jean Monnet Chair “Unveiling the EU’s Horizons: history, rights and the external dynamics of European integration” invites you to the lecture of Mr. Alexandros Papaioannou, a member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the topic: “The impact of international developments on Greek foreign and defence policy” which will take place on Wednesday 8 January 2025 at 10.00 a.m. in room 107 (NOPE building, 1st floor, campus).

Alexandros Papaioannou studied International Relations at the London School of Economics and holds a Master’s degree in European Politics and Administration from the College of Europe. He is a Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has served in the Embassies in Rome, Moscow, St. Etienne, Tunis and the Permanent Representation to the European Union. He has also worked in the offices of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of International Economic Affairs and Development Assistance, and as a diplomatic advisor to the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection on migration issues. He has worked for many years as a Policy Advisor in the Policy Planning Unit in the Office of the NATO Secretary General and then in NATO’s Directorate for Political Affairs and Security Policy, where he was primarily involved in relations with the EU. He also served as a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Permanent Representative of Greece to International Organisations in Geneva. He has been appointed Ambassador in Berlin, where he is expected to take up his duties in January 2025.
